In a commanding display of skill, the Men in Blue crushed their arch-enemies, Pakistan, by 228 runs in the Asia Cup Super 4 match this past Monday.
Men in Blue produced a dominant performance to demolish arch-rivals Pakistan by 228 runs in the Super 4 match of the Asia Cup on Monday.
Thanks to a stellar all-around performance, India secured their biggest win over Pakistan in the history of ODI cricket. Attempting to chase a steep target of 357, the Pakistani batting lineup collapsed quickly, unable to find any rhythm as wickets tumbled. The Indian bowlers set the tone early, keeping the opponents on the defensive throughout.
As the match resumed on the reserve day, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul stepped up and dominated from the start. Both batsmen played masterfully to secure their respective centuries. Together, they shared an unbeaten 233-run stand for the third wicket, lifting India to a towering score of 356/2 in 50 overs.
Kohli reached his 47th ODI century in just 267 innings, further proving his world-class consistency. He also now stands shoulder-to-shoulder with Sanath Jayasuriya for the most centuries in Asia Cup ODI history, both having four. Additionally, Kohli hit the 13,000-run milestone in ODIs faster than legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Kumar Sangakkara, and Jayasuriya.
Pakistan's pursuit started sluggishly, with Jasprit Bumrah providing an early breakthrough. Hardik Pandya then dismissed Babar Azam, setting the stage for Kuldeep Yadav to tear through the lineup. The spinner was lethal, claiming five wickets in eight overs, leaving Pakistan reeling at 128 runs for eight wickets. Interestingly, Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah—the latter of whom left the field toward the end of India's innings—did not bat, sealing a comprehensive win for India. India is now set to take on Sri Lanka in the Super 4 match on Tuesday, September 12.
