IPL 2026: Kuldeep Sen stays cool under pressure to seal a nail-biting victory for Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals managed to weather a storm created by Marcus Stoinis in the closing moments to beat Lucknow Super Giants by just 3 runs. Chasing 166, Stoinis delivered a powerful cameo of 38 runs from 17 balls, but it wasn't enough to secure the win for LSG. RR's bowling unit was dominant from the get-go, keeping the batters guessing all game. The victory was eventually sealed by pacer Kuldeep Sen, who executed a masterful final over to defend 15 runs.

Sent in to bat first, Jos Butler and Devdutt Padikkal started with a conservative approach. The momentum swung toward LSG when Avesh Khan dismissed Butler for 13 in the final over of the power-play. Shortly after, Sanju Samson was caught LBW by Jason Holder for 13, and a double-strike by Krishnappa Gowtham in the following over left RR struggling.

The tide turned thanks to a fireworks display from Shimron Hetmyer, whose aggressive batting kept RR in the fight. By building a 68-run partnership with Ravichandran Ashwin (28), Hetmyer ensured the team reached a competitive total of over 160.

As LSG started their pursuit, Trent Boult made an immediate impact, removing KL Rahul for a golden duck with a stunning delivery. He followed this up instantly by trapping Gowtham LBW. Prasidh Krishna then joined the party by dismissing Jason Holder, resulting in three wickets falling during the power-play. Quinton de Kock (39) and Deepak Hooda (25) provided some stability, adding 38 runs for the fourth wicket.

Yuzvendra Chahal then dismantled the middle order, claiming four wickets to leave LSG stranded. Marcus Stoinis fought valiantly to keep the game alive until the final three deliveries, but his efforts fell short. This loss snapped LSG's three-game winning streak.
