Chasing a target of 163, SRH skipper Kane Williamson played elegant innings and smashed 57-runs to give a good platform for his team. Nicholas Pooran played a little cameo towards the end to ensure the victory. Gujarat Titans faced their first defeat in the TATA IPL 2022.
Choosing to bowl first, SRH seized early control by putting GT in a tight spot at 47/2 during the powerplay. Matthew Wade and Hardik Pandya tried to rebuild the innings, but Wade's stay ended abruptly when Umran Malik trapped him LBW for 19 in his opening over. Meanwhile, David Miller continued to struggle, unable to find any rhythm during his time at the crease.
Abishek Sharma dismissed Miller with a tidy catch, contributing to a shaky period for GT. However, Hardik Pandya played a vital stabilizing role, scoring 50 to help his side reach a defendable score, supported by a handy 35 from Abhinav Manohar. SRH's bowlers were clinical in the death overs, giving away only 44 runs in the final five, with both Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Natarajan picking up two wickets each.
SRH's pursuit started on a high note as the opening pair of Sharma and Williamson shared a promising 64-run stand. The momentum shifted slightly when Rashid Khan broke the partnership, dismissing Sharma for 42. Rahul Tripathi then joined the captain, adding 17 runs to the total.
Unfortunately, Tripathi was forced to leave the field due to leg cramps. The game became tense again when Pandya dismissed Williamson for 57, but Nicholas Pooran remained unfazed, hitting several impressive boundaries to guide SRH to a comfortable win.
