Throughout his career, Tarak Sinha has shaped some of India's finest cricketers, such as Shikhar Dhawan and Rishabh Pant, along with veterans like Ashish Nehra and Manoj Prabhakar. While the Dronacharya Award—the highest honor for a coach—didn't come his way for a long time, his profound influence on the sport has finally been recognized with a recommendation for the award this year.
A total of six individuals have been nominated for the Dronacharya Award this time around. Alongside Tarak Sinha, the list includes specialists from various sports: Clarence Lobo in Hockey, CA Cutappa in Boxing, Jeevan Sharma in Judo, Vijay Sharma in Weightlifting, and Srinivas Rao in Table Tennis. This list of honorees was finalized by the committee chaired by retired Justice Mukul Mudgil.
The Dhyan Chand Award will be conferred upon Bharat Chhetri, Satyadev, Dadu Chougule, and Bobby Aloysius for their achievements in hockey, archery, wrestling, and athletics, respectively. Notably, the selection committee has expanded the typical quotas this year, recommending one extra candidate for both the Dronacharya and Dhyan Chand awards.
