IPL 2026: Sunrisers Hyderabad edge out Mumbai Indians to stay in the race for the playoffs

Sunrisers Hyderabad showed great composure to win a last-over thriller at Wankhede Stadium, beating Mumbai Indians by just 3 runs and keeping their playoff dreams alive. Chasing a massive 194, MI put up a fierce fight, led by Rohit Sharma (48), Ishan Kishan (43), and Tim David (48), but they missed the mark by the narrowest of margins. Umran Malik was the standout performer for SRH, tearing through the lineup with three key wickets.

Starting the innings, SRH suffered an early setback when Abishek Sharma was out for 9. However, the team recovered well thanks to Priyam Garg and Rahul Tripathi. Garg put together a respectable 42 runs before Ramandeep Singh took his wicket. The momentum shifted further when Tripathi and Nicholas Pooran (38) dominated the bowling, putting on a productive 76-run stand for the third wicket.

The tide turned in the final stages when Ramandeep Singh claimed two wickets in one over, stifling SRH's scoring rate. Consequently, the batting side managed only 29 runs in the last four overs. Despite this slowdown, Rahul Tripathi's explosive 76 runs ensured SRH finished with a strong total of 193/6 after 20 overs.

MI's response started brilliantly, with Rohit and Ishan forging a 95-run opening partnership. The deadlock was finally broken by Washington Sundar, who dismissed Rohit, triggering another characteristic mini-collapse for Mumbai as wickets began to fall in quick succession.

Tim David looked poised to lead MI to victory, but his untimely run-out completely shifted the game's trajectory. Bhuvneshwar Kumar maintained tight control, delivering a crucial wicket-maiden in the 19th over. Finally, Fazalhaq Farooqi successfully defended 18 runs in the last over to seal the win for SRH.
