Gavaskar identifies three key players India needs to nurture for the long haul

Former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar is advocating for more opportunities for a handful of players in the games to come. He is urging the coaching staff to take a close look at three particular individuals and invest in their growth. After being dominated in the first two ODIs of the South African series, India showed a marked improvement in the third match at Cape Town, although they couldn't quite clinch the win.
Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar wants a few Indian players to be given more opportunities in the upcoming matches. Sunil Gavaskar has urged the team management to look at three players very carefully and groom them for the future. India was outplayed in the first two ODIs against South Africa, but men in blue put up a much-improved show in the third game in Cape Town. However, team India failed to get over the line.

Gavaskar was impressed by several individuals during the series finale. India opted for three changes in their starting XI, introducing Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Chahar, and Prasidh Krishna. In Gavaskar's view, these players have proven they deserve to be active participants in the game rather than remaining as substitutes.

Gavaskar argued that these three players have significantly strengthened their case for a permanent spot in the team through their recent form. Although the match was essentially a formality, it served as a vital showcase for them. They stepped up under pressure, delivered high-quality performances, and proved they are ready for the starting lineup in future fixtures.

This is why the team management should double down on their investment in these players. Suryakumar showed he is in excellent form with a brisk 39 off 32 balls. Prasidh Krishna emerged as the standout bowler, claiming 3/59. Meanwhile, Deepak Chahar provided a brilliant all-round contribution, taking two wickets and smashing an impressive half-century.
