Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Siraj dominated the pitch, sharing seven wickets to put India in a commanding position during the first Test. The spin of Yadav (4 wickets) and the pace of Siraj (3 wickets) decimated the Bangladesh side, leaving them at 133/8 against India's total of 404. A late 31-run partnership between Mehidy Hasan (16*) and Ebadot Hossain (13*) offers the hosts a slim chance to avoid following on as they head into Day 3.
Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Siraj ran riot with the ball sharing seven wickets between them to put their side in the driver’s seat in the opening Test. Spinner Yadav scalped four while seamer Siraj bagged three to reduce Bangladesh to 133/8 in reply to India’s 404. Mehidy Hasan (16*) and Ebadot Hossain (13*) put up a 31-run partnership to give the hosts a faint hope of avoiding a follow-on when they resume play on Day 3.
Starting Day 2 at 278/6, India's goal was to push their score as high as possible. This momentum was briefly interrupted when Hossain took Shreyas Iyer for 86 early in the session. Bangladesh looked poised to wrap up the Indian tail quickly, but that hope was crushed by a resilient 92-run stand between Ravichandran Ashwin and Yadav for the eighth wicket.
That vital partnership pushed India's total close to 400. The momentum eventually shifted when Ashwin was out for 58, followed shortly by Taijul Islam trapping Yadav LBW for 40. Umesh Yadav added a modest 15 runs to the total, while Islam and Hasan were the standout bowlers for Bangladesh, taking four wickets apiece.
Siraj set a frantic tone for India by taking a wicket on the very first ball, dismissing Najmul Shanto. Umesh followed up by removing Yasir Ali for 4, and Siraj then tore through the top order by bowling out Litton Das (24). Kuldeep Yadav continued the onslaught, removing captain Shakib Al Hasan for 3 and then dismissing Nurul Hasan (16) via a brilliant short-leg catch by Shubman Gill. A double-wicket over from the left-arm spinner left Bangladesh reeling at 102/8, giving India a massive 271-run lead at the close of play.
