India experiences its first Test match loss at home in four years

The Indian squad has finally lost a home game after a four-year unbeaten run. Their last defeat on home soil was against Australia in Pune on February 23, 2017, who won by 333 runs. Since then, India has been incredibly strong, securing 11 wins and 3 draws across 15 Test matches.
The Indian team lost on home ground after 4 years. Earlier, India had beaten Australia in Test cricket for the last time in their home. Australia beat India by 333 runs in Pune on 23 February 2017. This is India’s 15th Test match since then. Out of these 15 Test matches, India has won 11, while 3 were drawn.

England took the first Test of the four-match series with a 227-run victory. This is a landmark win for England, as it's the first time they've beaten India in a Test match on Indian soil in nine years—dating back to their 9-wicket win in Ahmedabad on November 15, 2012.

This loss brings an end to a streak of eight consecutive home victories that started on January 14, 2018. It also represents just the fourth home Test defeat for India in the last ten years, with England and Australia being the only visiting teams to break their dominance in that period.

In terms of run margin, this is England's most dominant win ever on Indian soil, beating their previous record of 212 runs set in Mumbai in 2006. Additionally, the match marks a rare failure for India in Chennai, where they hadn't lost a Test in 22 years. The last defeat there was a 12-run loss to Pakistan in January 1999. In the nine Tests played in Chennai since then, India had won five and drawn three.
