In the women's singles opening round, defending champion and fourth seed Sofia Kenin of the USA advanced to the second round after a 7-5, 6-4 win over Australia's Madison England. Australia's Ashleigh Barty delivered a masterclass in efficiency, sweeping Tonga Kovinic of Montenegro 6-0, 6-0 in just 44 minutes. However, there were some upsets; two-time champion Victoria Azarenka suffered a surprising 5-7, 4-6 loss to Jessica Pegula, with Azarenka needing medical attention for respiratory issues during the match. Additionally, England's Johanna Konta was forced to withdraw mid-match due to an injury.
