Ravi Shastri set to leave his role as Indian team coach after T20 World Cup

Ravi Shastri is poised to vacate his position as the head coach of the Indian national team after the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, which will be hosted by the UAE from October 17th through November 14th. Shastri, who returned to the role after the 2019 World Cup, is reaching the end of his tenure and has already notified the BCCI that he will be stepping aside once his current deal expires.

There are reports that the exit won't be limited to the head coach; his entire support staff may also be leaving. Since their contracts end simultaneously, bowling coach Bharath Arun, batting coach Vikram Rathour, and fielding coach R Sridhar are all expected to move on. This gives the BCCI a chance to completely reset and rebuild the team's coaching structure after the T20 World Cup ends.

Shastri's first stint as head coach began in 2017, following the departure of Anil Kumble after a disappointing loss to Pakistan in the Champions Trophy final. However, the 'Men in Blue' missed out on winning an ICC title twice during Shastri's time in charge.

Many fans are excited that Shastri's departure opens the door for Rahul Dravid to take over as head coach. The legendary batsman has spent significant time building a deep talent pool for the national side while managing the India A and Under-19 teams. The BCCI has acknowledged that Dravid is a very strong candidate for the top job.
