After losing the toss and batting first, CSK struggled early on as the DC bowling attack dismantled their opening pair within the powerplay. Debutant Robin Uthappa departed for 19 after a catch by Ravi Ashwin, and Moeen Ali was sent back for a mere 5 runs by Axar Patel. This collapse at the top of the order forced the middle-order batsmen into a defensive shell, slowing the game down considerably.
