Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 1st Test (Rawalpindi): Day 2 largely spoiled by rain and bad light

The second day of this landmark Test in Rawalpindi—the first meeting between Pakistan and Sri Lanka on Pakistani soil in ten years and the first home match since 2009—was severely disrupted by heavy rain and poor light. Sri Lanka started the day at 220-5 and had moved to 225-5 in 7.5 overs before the weather forced an early lunch. Following a hiatus of 2 hours and 43 minutes, play resumed, but the limited time available saw Niroshan Dickwella dismissed for 33 before the match was abandoned at 3:30 pm (1030 GMT) due to more rain and fading light. Sri Lanka finished the day's play at 263-6, with Silva not out on 72 and Dilruwan Perera not out on 2.
Heavy rain and bad light hit the 2nd day of the historic Test after 10 years between Pakistan and Sri Lanka team in Rawalpindi on Thursday, Pakistan’s 1st home Test since a deadly attack in 2009. Sri Lanka, restarted at 220-5, had progressed to 225-5 in 7.5 overs when heavy rain in the 1st innings forced the teams to have early lunch. Play was stopped for 2 hours and 43 minutes but when it resumed only 10 overs were likely with Sri Lanka team losing Niroshan Dickwella for 33 before bad light accompanied by rain forced an early call-off at 3:30 pm (1030 GMT). At the close Sri Lanka were 263-6 with Silva unbeaten on 72 and Dilruwan Perera not out on 2.

Pakistan's surprising choice to exclude spinner Yasir Shah from the lineup made it difficult for them to find a breakthrough early on, allowing the Sri Lankan openers to reach 89-0 without loss by the lunch break.

Amidst the struggle, the young 16-year-old Naseem stood out on the first day in Rawalpindi, claiming 2 wickets for 51 runs. By the end of the first day, Dhananjaya de Silva remained at the crease with 38, while Niroshan Dickwella was still batting on 11.

On the opening day of the first Test, Sri Lanka reached 202/5 before bad light halted play. Captain Dimuth Karunaratne contributed a solid 59 runs before his dismissal. For Pakistan, the young Naseem Shah was the standout bowler, managing to take two wickets.
