Following a spike in Covid-19 infections among players and staff from various squads, the BCCI has indefinitely suspended the 2021 IPL. The decision was finalized during an emergency session with the IPL Governing Council, resulting in an immediate postponement of the season.
IPL 2021 has been suspended by BCCI indefinitely after several players and staff members from various teams tested positive for Covid-19. The Indian Premier League Governing Council (IPL GC) and BCCI held an emergency meeting in which they decided unanimously to postpone this IPL season, with immediate effect.

According to an official statement, the BCCI is unwilling to risk the safety of the players and support staff. The decision was driven by a commitment to the overall well-being of everyone involved in the tournament. The board noted that although they wanted to provide a positive distraction during these hard times, it is now vital to stop the competition and allow all team members to reunite with their loved ones.

The IPL confirmed that the BCCI will provide all necessary support to ensure every participant travels home safely. Additionally, the organization extended its thanks to the healthcare teams, state bodies, players, sponsors, and partners who collaborated to organize the 2021 season despite the prevailing difficulties.

IPL chairman Brijesh Patel earlier during the day confirmed the development to media in which he said the IPL has been suspended indefinitely. He assured they will try their best to conduct the event in the next available window.
