Mitchell Marsh stole the spotlight with a complete all-round performance, claiming two wickets with his precise bowling and smashing an unbeaten 89 to lead his team home.
Choosing to bowl first paid off early for DC when Chetan Sakariya dismissed the top-scoring Jos Butler for a mere 7. The highlight for the Rajasthan Royals was a surprising but brilliant batting effort from Ravichandran Ashwin, who played at number three and hammered a half-century off 38 balls.
The momentum continued as Ashwin and Devdutt Padikkal shared a 53-run stand for the fourth wicket. Padikkal looked set for a big score but fell for 48. DC's bowling attack recovered well in the closing stages, limiting RR to 160/6 by taking three wickets and conceding only 44 runs in the final five overs.
The run chase started poorly for DC with Bharat falling for a duck in the first over. However, Mitchell Marsh took control, hitting several sixes to keep the pressure off. David Warner played a more reserved role initially, finding his rhythm and accelerating only in the closing stages.
