James Anderson etches his name in the record books by reaching 600 Test wickets

England's James Anderson hit a massive career milestone this Tuesday, becoming the 600-wicket club's newest member. He is the first fast bowler ever to reach this number and just the fourth bowler overall to do so since beginning his international journey in 2003. The historic wicket came during the third Test when he dismissed Azhar Ali, caught by Joe Root at first slip, prompting a joyful celebration with his teammates on the field.
England’s James Anderson entered the coveted 600 club on Tuesday. Anderson became only the fourth bowler and the first seamer to create this feat of taking 600 wickets in test cricket. Anderson’s illustrious international career began in 2003. England’s paceman reached this record when he dismissed Pakistan’s Azhar Ali in the third test match as England skipper Root took the catch at first slip. After taking his 600th wicket his teammates gathered on the field to congratulate.

With the stadium devoid of fans due to COVID-19 restrictions, Anderson celebrated by holding the ball aloft and saluting the empty stands with a smile. This gesture brought some much-needed cheer to the group. Meanwhile, coach Chris Silverwood and the support crew showed their appreciation by applauding from the boundary.

Currently appearing in his 156th Test, Anderson ranks fourth among the greatest wicket-takers in history. The only men ahead of him are the retired legends of spin: Muralitharan with 800, Warne with 708, and Kumble with 619. He is now just 20 wickets away from surpassing the great Indian bowler Anil Kumble, a goal he is expected to reach soon. When questioned about stepping away from the game, Anderson clarified that retirement isn't on his mind right now; instead, he is fully focused on competing in next year's Ashes series.
When asked about his retirement Anderson said he has no plans to do so in near future. Now his focus is to represent England in the Ashes series which is scheduled for next year.
