This victory is now the biggest in ODI history, beating New Zealand's 2008 record of 290 runs against Ireland. The visitors were completely outclassed while chasing 391, crashing out for a meager 73 runs as the Indian bowling unit fired on all cylinders. Mohammed Siraj was the standout bowler, bagging four wickets to dismantle the opposition.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill got India off to a flyer with a 95-run opening partnership. Rohit was eventually dismissed for 42 by Chamika Karunarantne. Gill then played a masterful innings to reach his second ODI hundred, though he eventually fell for 116 to Kasun Rajitha. He had previously shared a dominant 131-run stand for the second wicket with Virat Kohli.

Virat Kohli continued his incredible run of form, smashing his 46th ODI century in only 85 balls. In doing so, he overtook Sachin Tendulkar's mark of 20, setting a new world record for the most ODI centuries scored at home with 21. Kohli remained unbeaten on 166, propelling India to a massive total of 390/5.

Sri Lanka's chase was hopeless from the start, as Siraj tore through their top order to leave them reeling at 35/4. The collapse continued when Kuldeep Yadav bowled a stunning delivery to remove captain Dasun Shanaka for 11. With wickets falling steadily, the visitors suffered a heavy defeat, while Kuldeep and Mohammed Shami contributed two wickets apiece. For his dominant performance throughout the series, Kohli was named Player of the Series after topping the scoring charts with 283 runs.
