Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) beat Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 21 runs to return to winning ways at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Chasing a stiff 201 runs to win, the hosts reached 179/8 in 20 overs, despite a half-century from their captain Virat Kohli. KKR’s mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy was in fine rhythm and finished with the best figures of 3/27 in his 4 overs. Suyash Sharma and Andre Russell claimed two wickets each.
KKR started their innings strongly after being sent in to bat, with openers Jason Roy and Narayan Jagadeesan (27) putting on 83 runs in the first 9 overs. Roy was the standout, hammering 56 runs featuring five sixes and four fours. Nitish Rana played a high-impact innings, scoring a rapid 48 off 21 balls before departing. Wanindu Hasaranga momentarily swung the game back toward RCB by taking two wickets in a single over. However, a contribution of 18 from Rinku Singh and a late surge from David Wiese, who cleared the boundary twice in the final over, ensured KKR reached a total of 200/5.
RCB's chase got off to a disastrous start when KKR's impact player removed Faf du Plessis (17) and Shahbaz Ahmed (2) during the powerplay.
