The Delhi Capitals, despite a difficult season, showed great grit in Dharamsala to beat the Punjab Kings by 15 runs in a high-scoring clash. Since DC was already out of the playoff running, they played without pressure, and their victory effectively ended Punjab's chances of making the playoffs. Liam Livingstone played a brilliant innings of 94, featuring 5 fours and 9 sixes, but the DC bowlers held their nerve to defend a formidable total of 214. Key contributions came from Ishant Sharma and Anrich Nortje, who took two wickets apiece.
Beleaguered Delhi Capitals (DC) held their nerves to edge out Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 15 runs in a high-scoring match in Dharamsala. Already out of the playoff race, DC players had nothing to lose and gave out their best to beat Punjab Kings, knocking them out of the playoff race. Liam Livingstone’s terrific knock of 94 packed with 5 fours and 9 sixes went in vain as DC bowlers kept their calm to successfully defend a big target of 214. For DC, Ishant Sharma and Anrich Nortje bagged two wickets each.
Choosing to bat first, DC got off to their strongest start of the year, as David Warner and Prithvi Shaw put on a commanding 94-run opening stand. Captain Warner fell just short of a half-century, exiting with 46 after a spectacular diving catch by Shikhar Dhawan. Prithvi Shaw, returning to the IPL for the first time since April 20, made an immediate impact by smashing 54 runs off just 38 balls.
Rilee Rossouw was the standout performer, showcasing masterful batting with an unbeaten 82 off 37 deliveries, including 6 fours and 6 sixes at a blistering strike rate of 221. Phil Salt added a quick, unbeaten 26 to help DC reach 213/2, marking the first time this season the team has crossed the 200-run threshold.
Punjab Kings' chase got off to a disastrous start when captain Dhawan was dismissed for a duck. However, Prabhsimran Singh (22) and Atharva Taide managed to stabilize the innings with a 50-run partnership before Axar Patel broke the stand. Taide then partnered with Livingstone for 78 runs, keeping Punjab in the game until Taide had to retire hurt on 55. Ultimately, Livingstone's brilliance went unmatched as he lacked support from the rest of the lineup. By taking wickets at regular intervals, DC ensured a comfortable victory.
