Mithali Raj is fully convinced that the 2026 World Cup is within her team's reach

The captain of India's women's team, Mithali Raj, recently shared her confidence on Twitter, stating that she believes her side is capable of winning the 2022 World Cup. She will be 39 by the start of the competition. Originally planned for 2021 in New Zealand, the tournament was rescheduled for February 2022 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

To focus exclusively on the 50-over World Cup, Mithali retired from T20s in 2019, aiming for a fairytale ending to her and Jhulan Goswami's storied careers. After the ICC announced the new dates, Mithali tweeted on Friday that she sees the postponement as a positive development, giving her more time to train and refine her game for the big event.

In a reply to former cricketer Lisa Sthalker, Mithali emphasized that her sights are set firmly on the championship. She mentioned that her current mental and physical condition is better than ever. A true legend of the game, Mithali debuted in 1999 and, over two decades, scored 6,888 runs—the most in the history of women's ODIs. Her impressive record includes an overall average of 50.64, a top score of 125 not out, as well as 7 centuries and 53 half-centuries.
