Mohammed Shami to skip T20 World Cup; BCCI Secretary outlines the roadmap for the pacer's return

Mohammed Shami, one of India's premier fast bowlers, has been out of action since the 2023 ODI World Cup. Due to a recent surgical procedure, he will be unavailable for the 2024 IPL. Jay Shah, the BCCI Secretary, further confirmed that Shami will not be part of the squad for the T20 World Cup in the US and West Indies.
Team India’s senior pacer Mohammed Shami, who has not played any form of cricket since the 2023 ODI World Cup, recently underwent surgery and will miss the upcoming cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The BCCI secretary Jay Shah has revealed that the star bowler will also miss this year’s T20 World Cup, which will be played in the US and West Indies.

Jay Shah discussed the expected timeline for Shami's return to the game. With the surgery complete and Shami back on home soil, he is expected to rejoin the squad for the September series against Bangladesh, consisting of two Tests and three T20Is. Despite being the most successful bowler in the previous ODI World Cup, Shami actually competed in that tournament while dealing with an injury.

Last month, the 33-year-old underwent surgery on his Achilles tendon, which sidelined him for the five-match Test series against England. Sharing the news on X, the right-arm pacer told his fans that his heel operation went well and that although the road to recovery will be long, he is looking forward to playing again. #AchillesRecovery #HeelSurgery #RoadToRecovery

Regarding KL Rahul, Jay Shah informed the press that the wicketkeeper-batter has received an injection and has begun his rehabilitation program at the NCA. He is expected to link up with the Lucknow Super Giants shortly before their opening match against Rajasthan Royals on March 24.
