The defending champion, Alcaraz, has advanced to the Indian Wells quarterfinals by defeating Marozsan

Carlos Alcaraz took care of business on Tuesday at the BNP Paribas Open, leaving Fabian Marozsan with no room for a repeat of last year's upset. With a straight-sets victory (6-3, 6-3), Alcaraz avenged his previous defeat in Rome. The reigning title holder utilized his explosive baseline game to secure his 50th ATP Masters 1000 win, ending the match in one hour and 15 minutes to punch his ticket to the quarterfinals.
Carlos Alcaraz made sure Fabian Marozsan didn’t have a repeat performance on Tuesday at the BNP Paribas Open, defeating the Hungarian in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 to avenge his loss in Rome last year. The reigning champion won his 50th match at the ATP Masters 1000 level with tenacity from the baseline, unleashing tremendous firepower to beat the 24-year-old Marozsan and advance to the quarterfinals after an hour and 15 minutes of battle.

After falling behind 2-3 in the opening set, Alcaraz flipped the momentum by winning four straight games to take the lead over the 58th-ranked player. The 20-year-old Spaniard was aggressive on returns, specifically targeting Marozsan's second serve by shifting his court position to be more opportunistic. This approach allowed the four-time Masters champion to win 62% of second-serve return points. In a moment of high intensity during the second set, Alcaraz managed to fend off two break points before sealing the game with a blistering 105-mph forehand winner.

Currently holding a 9-3 record this season, Alcaraz has now tied his head-to-head series with Marozsan 1-1, erasing the memory of a straight-sets loss to the qualifier in Rome last year. On March 15, the Spaniard is set to face Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals. Zverev, the top-seeded German, earned his place in the final eight after a hard-fought victory over 10th seed Alex de Minaur, winning 5-7, 6-2, 6-3.

Zverev enters the matchup with a psychological edge, leading the head-to-head rivalry against Alcaraz 5-3. Meanwhile, Alcaraz, who has 12 tour titles to his name, is chasing his first trophy since his Wimbledon triumph. He has been in exceptional form at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, winning nine matches in a row and reaching the quarterfinals for the third year running.

\"I'll be honest, I felt some nerves before heading out there. It's tough facing someone who beat you so decisively—I remember feeling like I had no way back into that match in Rome,\" Alcaraz admitted after the victory. \"Getting into the right mindset today was a challenge, but I'm really pleased with how I handled it. I stayed true to my style from the very first point. I had a much clearer idea of what I needed to do differently than I did in Rome.\"

\"After securing a strong first set, my focus shifted to maintaining that pressure in the second. I wanted to get an early break and build a lead immediately. My goal was to disrupt his rhythm and prevent him from playing his game, and I think I executed that plan quite well,\" he concluded.
