NZC authorizes IPL participation and reveals a modified T20 roster

Players from New Zealand have been cleared by their national board to compete in the IPL. At the same time, NZC has established separate squads for the T20 World Cup and their travels across the sub-continent, noting that the high-intensity environment of the IPL will be excellent preparation for the World Cup hosted in the UAE.
New Zealand cricket board has approved their player’s participation in the preceding IPL. New Zealand cricket board has also announced different squads for the sub-continent tour and T20 World Cup. Playing in the IPL will serve as a good practice or preparation for the T20 World cup event in the UAE.

New Zealand's top-tier team is scheduled to visit India once the T20 World Cup concludes. Kane Williamson will remain at the helm, captaining the side through both the World Cup and the Indian tour. Their itinerary for November and December features three T20I games and two Tests, the latter of which are crucial for the 2021-2023 ICC World Test Championship standings.

Tom Latham has been named captain of a backup squad designated for matches against Pakistan and Bangladesh. Because the IPL was set to resume on September 19th, the NZCB opted for two different team lists. This means a secondary group will represent the Blackcaps during their Pakistan tour in September 2021.

A handful of New Zealand's biggest names, such as Trent Boult, Tim Southee, Lockie Ferguson, Jimmy Neesham, and Kane Williamson, will miss the Pakistan series. In a similar vein, veteran Ross Taylor was originally picked for the ODIs against Pakistan but will now remain home to gear up for the Test series in India.

The NZCB has indicated that the official Test squad for the India tour will be revealed in about a month. Additionally, the white-ball pool will be expanded to 32 players, introducing fresh talent like pacer Ben Sears and all-rounder Cole McConchie to the mix.
