Prasad slams Team India for a lack of passion and winning mentality

The West Indies have handed Team India two consecutive losses, acting as a stark warning for Hardik Pandya’s youthful team. If they lose again, it will be 17 years since India last lost a bilateral series to the Caribbean team. This third defeat of the tour has cast a shadow over India's readiness for the ODI World Cup in two months and the T20 World Cup scheduled for next year.
Team India’s second consecutive defeat to the West Indies has served as a wake-up call for Hardik Pandya’s ambitious group of teenagers, as another loss would be their first bilateral series defeat against the Caribbean team in 17 years. This is also Men in Blue’s third defeat on the tour, raising questions about the team’s preparations for the ODI World Cup in the next two months and the T20 World Cup next year.

The Indian squad has several critical issues to resolve, including the 'lack of intent' mentioned by Venkatesh Prasad. Having been part of the coaching setup during the 2007 T20 World Cup triumph, Prasad feels the current team is underperforming, especially considering how much the players have learned from the IPL.

Calling the performance 'very, very ordinary,' Prasad insisted that the team shouldn't make excuses. He noted that in the seven T20 World Cup attempts since the IPL's inception, India has only reached one final and won none. The former fast bowler tweeted that the squad needs a significant boost in their hunger and intensity to win.

Prasad pointed to yesterday's game as an example, noting that after Yuzvendra Chahal took two wickets in his third over (the 16th) to swing the momentum, he was curiously left out of the attack. This allowed the West Indies' number 9 and 10 batters to easily score against the pacers. Prasad argued that the team needs to be more instinctive and strategic rather than just following a textbook. He concluded that Hardik's tactical choices have turned this series into a do-or-die situation. India now faces a critical, must-win encounter against the West Indies today, August 8, at Providence Stadium.
