The young guns of the Indian cricket team produced an amazing batting performance to beat South Africa by 2 wickets at Sahara Park Willowmoore Cricket Stadium on Tuesday. With a fantastic win in a thrilling encounter, defending champions India has sealed a spot in the U19 World Cup summit clash and will face either Australia or Pakistan in the final on February 11, Sunday. Men in Blue dealt with few early blows while chasing 245, however, India’s skipper Uday Saharan and Sachin Dhas played blistering knocks of 81 and 96 respectively to win the semifinal for India.
Choosing to field first, India initially dominated as Raj Limbani struck early, dismissing Steve Stolk for 14 and bowling out David Teeger for zero. However, South Africa regained their footing through a steadying 72-run partnership between Richard Seletswane and Lhuan-dre Pretorius.
India's bowlers struggled to break the partnership until the 31st over, when Murugan Perumal Abhishek took a spectacular catch at mid-wicket to dismiss Pretorius, who had played a great knock of 76. Seletswane eventually fell for 64 just as South Africa needed him most, while Oliver Whitehead contributed a modest 22. A quick-fire 23* from Tristan Luus off just 12 balls helped the Proteas finish with a strong total of 244/7 after 50 overs.
The chase started poorly for India, as Kwena Maphaka immediately dismissed Adarsh Singh for a golden duck. The pressure mounted further as Luus tore through the top order, claiming three quick wickets and leaving the middle order in a precarious position. Fortunately, Saharan and Dhas stepped up, playing anchor roles and putting together a massive 171-run partnership that steered India toward an improbable victory.
