India cruises past Afghanistan thanks to brilliant displays from Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah

Thanks to a clinical and well-executed game plan, India defeated Afghanistan by 47 runs during Thursday's T20 World Cup Super 8 clash. This win ensures that the Men in Blue remain undefeated in the tournament so far. Attempting to chase down 182, Afghanistan suffered early losses that stripped them of any momentum, largely due to Jasprit Bumrah's devastating opening spell.
A disciplined and clinical performance helped India to ease past Afghanistan by 47 runs in a T20 World Cup Super 8 match on Thursday. The win helped Men in Blue to maintain their unbeaten streak in the ongoing tournament. Chasing 182, Afghanistan dealt with some early blows and never found a way to regain the momentum. Jasprit Bumrah’s two early strikes left Afghanistan indisposed for the rest of the innings.

Bumrah set the tone by removing openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz (11) and Hazratullah Zazai (2) in consecutive overs. The situation worsened for Afghanistan when Axar Patel claimed Ibrahim Zadran's wicket in his first over. Although Gulbadin Naib and Azmatullah Omarzai (26) managed to put together a 44-run partnership to stabilize the innings, Kuldeep Yadav eventually ended Naib's stay at 17.

The batting surface was slow and difficult, offering significant assistance to bowlers who could manipulate the ball. The Indian side played to these conditions perfectly, taking regular wickets throughout the innings. Arshdeep Singh tore through the lower order to wrap up the Afghan innings at 134. Bumrah's stats were phenomenal, taking 7 wickets for only 3 runs in 4 overs, whereas Arshdeep took three wickets but gave away more runs.

India's batting didn't start smoothly, with Fazalhaq Farooqi giving Rohit Sharma a cheap exit for 8. Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant also fell relatively early, contributing 24 and 20 runs respectively. The duo of Rashid Khan (3 for 26) and Farooqi (3 for 33) did significant damage to India's top and middle order. However, a vital 60-run partnership between Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya rescued the innings, pushing India to a competitive total of 181/8. Suryakumar was the top scorer with 53, supported by Pandya's 32. India's next challenge will be against Bangladesh this Saturday, June 22, at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.
