Sanjay Manjrekar, a former Indian international, argues that switching captains is a move that makes perfect sense from a cricketing perspective. He suggests that fans should look past the emotional attachment to Rohit's leadership, emphasizing that the Mumbai Indians have made a smart choice given Hardik's proven track record as an impactful player and captain.
Manjrekar pointed out that Hardik is currently one of the most effective T20 leaders in the game, whereas Rohit has been at the helm for a very long time. While he supports the move, he hopes the controversial way the transition happened doesn't weigh too heavily on Hardik. He believes Rohit's batting ability won't change, and if it means he can simply focus on scoring runs, Manjrekar fully endorses the decision.
Under Rohit Sharma's guidance, Mumbai rose to become one of the most dominant forces in IPL history, joining CSK as one of the few teams to hoist the trophy five times. Across 158 matches as captain, Rohit steered MI to 87 victories and 67 defeats. Throughout his IPL career spanning 243 matches, the 36-year-old has amassed a total of 6,211 runs.
