Suryakumar Yadav's incredible 102* off 51 balls, paired with three-wicket hauls from Hardik Pandya and Piyush Chawla, ensured a 7-wicket win for Mumbai Indians against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede Stadium. This marks MI's fourth victory of the season, lifting them from the bottom of the standings to ninth place. Even though the five-time title winners are unlikely to make the playoffs, this result has shaken up the overall tournament dynamics.
Suryakumar Yadav’s astonishing unbeaten 102 off 51 balls, combined with Piyush Chawla and Hardik Pandya’s three-wicket hauls, powered Mumbai Indians (MI) to beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and secure their fourth win of the season by seven wickets at the Wankhede Stadium. MI moved up from the bottom of the table to ninth place after clinching a comprehensive win. Although MI is still not likely to progress to the playoffs, but the five-time champions’ win has opened up the tournament.
With SRH visiting the Wankhede Stadium, all signs pointed toward a high-scoring encounter, especially since their previous meeting saw record-breaking totals. However, the narrative shifted when MI's bowlers stepped up, keeping SRH to 173/8. Though Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma ignited the innings with a 56-run opening stand in the powerplay, MI recovered quickly, taking consistent wickets to put SRH on the defensive.
Jasprit Bumrah neutralized the threat of Abhishek by dismissing him for 11, and Anshul Kamboj earned his first IPL wicket by getting Mayank Agarwal for 5. Nitish Kumar Reddy added 20 runs, but the dangerous Heinrich Klaasen fell for just 2. The SRH side was eventually pushed to a defendable score thanks to a brisk 35 off 17 balls from captain Pat Cummins.
During the chase, SRH's bowlers found early success with the new ball, claiming three wickets in the powerplay. However, Suryakumar Yadav took control of the game, aggressively targeting the bowlers—specifically Marco Jansen—to stabilize the innings. Supported by Tilak Varma, who played a steady hand with an unbeaten 37 off 32 balls, the duo put on 143 runs in 79 balls to seal the win for MI in the 18th over.
