The fourth edition is now here to unearth many more of such hidden talents. For now, let’s have a look at some of the players who can be expected to fire in this season.
Narayan Jagadeesan (Dindigul)
As a wicket-keeper batsman, he has established himself as one of the most dominant forces in the league's history. Last season, he finished as the second-highest run-scorer, amassing 396 runs across nine games with an impressive average of 66. This stellar form didn't go unnoticed, as he was subsequently signed by Chennai in the 2019 Indian T20 League auction.
Murugan Ashwin (Chepauk)
Another standout graduate of this league who successfully transitioned to the big stage of the Indian T20 League. To date, he has represented three different franchises—Pune, Bangalore, and Punjab—and will be playing for Chepauk in the upcoming Tamil Nadu T20 League. The 28-year-old boasts a solid T20 record, with 44 wickets in 45 appearances, averaging 26.25 with a strike rate of 21.1.
Washington Sundar (TUTI)
After making a splash in this league a few years ago, the 19-year-old was quickly elevated to the Indian T20 League and has since become a fixture in India's limited-overs national team. Currently regarded as one of the country's premier spin-bowling all-rounders, he even has a century to his name in the Tamil Nadu T20 League. His bowling stats are equally formidable, with 42 wickets in 43 matches, maintaining a tight economy of 6.86 and a strike rate of 20.5. He is also a valuable contributor with the bat, having scored 406 runs at an average of 20.30.
Arun Karthik (Madurai)
This wicket-keeper batsman was instrumental in guiding Madurai to their first-ever Tamil Nadu T20 league title last year. He dominated the scoring charts, topping the list with 472 runs in 10 matches and a massive average of 78.66. His strike rate of 153.44 highlights just how aggressive and destructive he was at the top of the order, and he'll be looking to maintain that momentum this season.
Srikkanth Anirudha (Karaikudi)
Last year, he finished as the league's third-highest run-scorer, tallying 347 runs with an average close to 50. Anirudha, the son of former Indian international Kris Srikkanth, brings a wealth of experience to the side, including time spent with Chennai in the Indian T20 League. Across 71 T20 appearances, he has accumulated over 1,200 runs at a steady average of 26.18.
Chandrasekar Ganapathy (Trichy)
The 38-year-old veteran was the standout bowler for Trichy last season, leading their wicket tally. In just seven matches, he claimed 10 wickets with a sharp average of 19.30 and a strike rate of 14.9. His ability to tear through batting lineups was highlighted by a five-wicket haul. His overall T20 career further proves his efficiency, with 33 wickets in 25 games at an average of 16.09 and a strike rate of 15.
Shahrukh Khan (Kovai)
Sharing a name with Bollywood's biggest star, this right-handed batsman made a huge impact last season. He was a powerhouse at the top of the order, finishing as the fourth-highest run-scorer with 325 runs at an average of 36.11. His campaign included three half-centuries and a strong overall strike rate of 141.30.
Rajagopal Sathish (Kanchi)
This all-rounder has moved from TUTI to Kanchi for the current season. He was in great form with the bat last year while playing for TUTI, scoring 233 runs in seven games at an average of 77.66 and a blistering strike rate of 182.03. Beyond his batting, he is a genuine wicket-taking threat with the ball. His presence will strengthen Kanchi's lower order and provide crucial variety to their bowling options.
