The BCCI has still not distributed the World T20 prize winnings to the Indian women's team.

The BCCI continues to show a disappointing lack of support for its female athletes. This latest revelation that the women's team hasn't been paid for last March's World T20 is sure to spark anger among fans, adding to the existing tension following recent reports on the unfair salary gap between male and female players.

The MCG served as the stage for the Women's World T20 final, where India put up a strong fight but eventually lost to Australia, taking second place. It has now been over 14 months, yet the Indian squad has still not seen their ICC prize money. This delay is particularly glaring when compared to other nations; according to the UK Daily and Telegraph, Australia was paid shortly after their win, and England received their share only two months later.

Although the ICC transferred the payments to the BCCI back in November 2020, the board has yet to release the money to the women's players, claiming a breakdown in communication.

The delay seems to be a tactical financial move; if the BCCI pays the players now, the board would be hit with double taxation. By holding onto the funds, the BCCI is simply attempting to avoid paying extra taxes to the government.

Because the ICC deducts TDS from these winnings, the Indian players could potentially lose around $60,000. It appears the BCCI is intentionally dragging its feet to find a way to avoid this loss.
