Without any warning to the players or the captain, Royal Challengers Bangalore wiped their social media pages of all images and posts on Wednesday, February 12, 2020.
After noticing the blank pages, India's captain Virat Kohli tweeted on February 13, jokingly offering help to the RCB social media team regarding the 'disappearing' content. Yuzvendra Chahal, who first noticed the glitch on February 12, also took to Twitter to express his bewilderment, likening the empty profile to a confusing googly.
South African batsman AB de Villiers also got in on the joke, asking on Twitter if the sudden content removal was actually a tactical decision for the team. The fact that the players were reacting publicly showed that the team management hadn't informed them about the reason for the blackout.
RCB management later explained that the accounts were cleared to make way for a name change following a three-year sponsorship agreement with Muthoot Fincorp. They noted that the new team branding, including updated jerseys and social media layouts, would be rolled out soon.
