Tara Norris made a name for herself in the history books during the WPL 2023 encounter between Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore. The left-arm seamer completely took over the game in just two short overs. In a dream debut, Norris became the first player in WPL history to take five wickets in a single match, effectively dismantling RCB's lineup and securing a decisive 60-run victory for DC in their first game of the season.
Tara Norris scripted history during the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 match between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Norris, a left-arm medium pacer, sealed the fate of the match in just two overs. In her WPL debut, she took wickets of some renowned batters in the world and became the first player to take a fifer in WPL, guiding DC to a remarkable 60-run victory over RCB in their campaign opener on Sunday.
Choosing to field first, RCB were immediately put on the back foot by an incredible opening partnership between Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning. The pair put on 162 runs, setting a benchmark for women's T20 cricket. They played with total authority, with Lanning reaching fifty in 30 balls and Shafali following shortly after in 31 balls.
The RCB breakthrough finally came in the 15th over via Heather Knight, who bowled Lanning out for 72 and then dismissed Shafali for 84 in the same over. Marizanne Kapp and Jemimah Rodrigues then added quick-fire scores of 39 and 22 respectively, propelling DC to a daunting final score of 223/2.
Chasing a massive 224, RCB's openers Smriti Mandhana (35) and Sophie Devine (14) initially looked aggressive, with the captain finding the boundary frequently. However, Alice Capsey shifted the momentum by dismissing both openers within two overs. That set the stage for Tara Norris, who triggered a complete batting collapse by bowling out Ellyse Perry (31). Despite a spirited 30 from Megan Schutt, RCB couldn't recover enough to chase down the target.
