India is looking to recover from a disappointing defeat in today's must-win second ODI against Bangladesh, scheduled for 11:30 am in Mirpur. To succeed, India's elite batters must approach the game with more maturity and adjust to the environment. Currently, there's a worrying trend where the top order tries to accelerate too quickly, leading to an excessive number of scoreless deliveries.
After a demoralizing defeat, team India would hope to deliver their best in a must-win second ODI against Bangladesh, which will kick off today at 11:30 am in Mirpur. India’s star-studded batting line-up should adapt to the conditions well and score runs by playing with more responsibility. One of the main problems with the Indian top-order batters is that they are accelerating the run rate but at the same time they consume more dot balls.
Wasim Jaffer, a former Indian international, has advised the coaching staff to integrate Axar Patel into the playing XI for the second match. He believes Axar should take the spot of fast bowler Kuldeep Sen because the conditions in Bangladesh are far more conducive to spin bowling. Axar had previously missed the series opener because of a slight fitness issue.
According to Jaffer, the nature of the pitches in Bangladesh allows spinners to dominate, a fact made obvious by Shakib Al Hasan's performance. The 44-year-old veteran believes that since Shahbaz Ahmed is still finding his feet, the team needs the reliability and impact of a seasoned spinner like Axar. Jaffer also urged the batting lineup to be more cautious and calculated when dealing with Ebadot Hossain and Shakib.
If India can resist Shakib and avoid losing quick wickets, it will shift the pressure onto the other Bangladeshi bowlers and likely force them into errors. Jaffer is optimistic that the Men in Blue can stage a comeback, win this match, and tie the three-game series. There is high expectation for the batters to be more influential in the next rounds, though the second ODI in Dhaka is expected to be another low-scoring affair.
