Bayern Munich forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting scored a second-half goal against his former club and a late strike from Serge Gnabry secured a 2-0 second-leg win for Julian Naglesmann’s side, helping the Germans to reach the quarter-finals off the back of a 3-0 aggregate victory over the Ligue 1 leaders.
The French club started the game under pressure, trailing by a goal from the first leg and missing Neymar, who is out for the season after an ankle injury on February 19 necessitated surgery. Their situation worsened when star center-back Marquinhos had to leave the pitch in the first half after picking up an injury.
The opening half saw plenty of action from both sides. Lionel Messi was active but had two shots blocked near the goal early on, while Bayern's Jamal Musiala forced a great low save from Gianluigi Donnarumma. Just before halftime, Bayern's Matthijs de Ligt showed his value by making a crucial defensive save to keep the clean sheet intact.
As the hosts pushed for control, Choupo-Moting initially saw a goal disallowed for offside early in the second half. However, the 33-year-old finally broke the deadlock in the 61st minute. The goal came after Marco Verratti lost possession in his own area; Thomas Muller intercepted the ball and fed Leon Goretzka, who then set up Choupo-Moting for a simple tap-in past Donnarumma.
Toward the end of the match, Bayern goalkeeper Yann Sommer remained alert, making two key saves. The victory was put beyond doubt in the 89th minute when Serge Gnabry capped off a lethal counter-attack with a second goal.
The sequence began with Joshua Kimmich winning the ball and quickly finding substitute Joao Cancelo. Cancelo delivered a precise through-ball to Gnabry, who drove into the penalty area and finished with a delicate chip over Donnarumma to seal the win.
This exit marks the fifth time in seven years that PSG has been knocked out of the Champions League. In contrast, Bayern Munich continued their dominance, extending their home unbeaten run to 24 games and reaching the quarter-finals for the 11th time in their last 12 European campaigns.
