India is set for the battle against Australia in the fourth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy which begins on March 9 (Thursday) in Ahmedabad. Team India started off the Test series in a dominating fashion, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead to retain the coveted trophy. However, the world no.1 Test team Australia bounced back strong to seal a win in the third Test. Rohit Sharma-led men will look to deliver their best to secure a win so that they can seal their spot in the WTC final.
Captain Rohit Sharma put an end to the speculation that Ishan Kishan would be stepping in for KS Bharat in the final match. Speaking at the pre-match press conference, the skipper elaborated on the team's wicketkeeping dilemma and defended Bharat against the backlash regarding his recent batting struggles.
Rohit admitted that not having Rishabh Pant is a huge blow, as his skill set on turning pitches is unmatched. Knowing Pant wouldn't be available, the management opted for Ishan Kishan to provide an attacking left-handed option. As for Bharat, Rohit pointed out his extensive experience and success in domestic cricket, arguing that it would be unjust to judge his capabilities based solely on the challenging pitches they've encountered.
Rohit made it clear that the team intends to support Bharat and give him the necessary time to find his rhythm. He also mentioned having a conversation with Ishan, assuring him that once he gets his opportunity, he will be given a fair run of games rather than being dropped quickly. The captain emphasized that they are applying this same patient approach with Bharat right now.
