During Tuesday's relegation battle at the City Ground, Nottingham Forest dominated Fulham to secure a 3-1 win. The first half was entirely Forest's, featuring an early goal from Callum Hudson-Odoi in the 9th minute and a second from Chris Wood in the 19th. Even after Fulham's manager Marco Silva made three tactical changes, the visitors conceded a third goal in first-half stoppage time via a clinical finish by Morgan Gibbs-White.
Nottingham Forest played well to beat Fulham 3-1 in their battle to avoid relegation in the Premier League on Tuesday night at the City Ground. The hosts dominated the first half of the game, with winger Callum Hudson-Odoi scoring after nine minutes and Chris Wood making Forest’s lead 2-0 in the 19th minute. Fulham manager Marco Silva made three substitutions, but things became worse for the visitors before halftime as the superb Morgan Gibbs-White made it 3-0 in stoppage time with an excellent finish.
Fulham showed more fight in the second half and managed to pull one back through a Tosin Adarabioyo header following a corner. Despite both sides hitting the frame of the goal, Forest held their lead to reach 25 points, leaving them three points ahead of Luton Town at the bottom of the table.
Last month, Forest faced a crisis after losing four points due to Premier League financial rule violations. However, they've bounced back impressively, first earning a point against Crystal Palace and then dominating the first half of their match against Fulham to secure three more.
The breakthrough came within ten minutes when Hudson-Odoi, played through by Gibbs-White, cut inside and slotted the ball past Bernd Leno. Though Hudson-Odoi missed a chance to extend the lead, Chris Wood soon made it 2-0 with a sharp strike from the perimeter of the area. Seeking a comeback, manager Marco Silva swapped Alex Iwobi, Saaa Luki, and Harry Wilson for Adama Traore, Tom Cairney, and Willian.
Forest continued to press forward, and Morgan Gibbs-White put the finishing touch on a stellar first half with a strike into the far corner that thrilled the home crowd. While Adarabioyo's goal shortly after the restart caused a brief moment of tension, Forest responded quickly, though Neco Williams saw his effort hit the crossbar. Fulham improved significantly toward the end, and the match could have become a nail-biter if Kenny Tete's header hadn't rattled the woodwork.
Following the win, manager Nuno Espirito Santo praised his team, noting that it was one of their best starts in terms of attacking balance and overall play. While admitting there are still areas for improvement, he emphasized the positives. He also credited the home fans, lamenting that they can't always play at the City Ground, and stated that the supporters deserved this moment of joy after the team's hard work to deliver it.
