Manchester City dominated their rivals in a 6-3 derby win this past Sunday, with Phil Foden and Erling Haaland both scoring three times. This emphatic victory allowed City to maintain their flawless record in the Premier League, leaving Manchester United looking thoroughly beaten. The first half was such a one-sided affair that City led 4-0, prompting a significant number of United fans to leave the stadium early. However, United did find some momentum in the second half at the Etihad, putting up a better fight to avoid a total shutout.
Building on his recent success against Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace, Haaland secured yet another hat-trick. The 22-year-old Norwegian has made history in the Premier League, becoming the first person to score three goals in three consecutive home matches. This brings his incredible tally to 17 goals in only 10 games played.
Phil Foden also netted three goals, making for a historic match since the last City player to do so against United was Francis Lee in 1970. Seeing two players from the same team score hat-tricks in a single game is almost unheard of. City controlled the match from start to finish with an overwhelming offensive display.
The scoring opened in the 8th minute when Foden fired home a brilliant shot, assisted by a precise low ball from Bernardo Silva that left Foden wide open. United struggled throughout, appearing clumsy with the ball and fragile at the back. In the 34th minute, Haaland made it 2-0, leaping over McTominay to power home a header from a Kevin De Bruyne corner.
Just three minutes later, Haaland grabbed his second goal, sliding in to finish a superb ball delivered by De Bruyne to the far post. Just before the break, Foden scored his second of the game, reacting quickly to a wonderful low cross from Haaland to blast the ball past David de Gea.
United finally found a way back into the game in the 56th minute through Antony. After receiving a cross-field ball from Eriksen, Antony cut inside and unleashed a curling 25-yard strike that beat Ederson. Shortly after, however, both Haaland and Foden completed their respective hat-tricks.
In the final ten minutes, Anthony Martial scored twice for United—once with a header from a rebound and once from the penalty spot. While these goals added a bit of respectability to the scoreline, they did nothing to jeopardize City's commanding victory in the derby.
