Victor Osimhen's two goals lead Napoli to their first Champions League quarter-final appearance

Napoli comfortably dispatched Eintracht Frankfurt to reach the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time in the club's history. Victor Osimhen stayed in scorching form, scoring in both halves to lead the Italians to a convincing 3-0 win at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona this past Wednesday. With a total aggregate score of 5-0, Luciano Spalletti’s side remains in excellent form, chasing a historic double on two fronts. The victory was sealed when Piotr Zielinski converted a penalty for the third goal.

The opening stages were cagey, but the pace quickened as Frankfurt attempted to pressure Napoli by maintaining a high line. This approach almost worked when Daichi Kamada slipped Mario Gotze through on goal, but Gotze hesitated as Alex Meret rushed out to challenge, missing a critical chance to get Frankfurt back into the contest.

While Frankfurt searched for their first goal, goalkeeper Kevin Trapp was forced into several big saves, most notably denying Khvicha Kvaratskhelia from point-blank range. The deadlock finally broke in the second minute of first-half stoppage time, when an unmarked Osimhen rose highest to head home a cross from Matteo Politano.

Entering the match with a 2-0 lead from the first leg, the Nigerian forward—who had already scored in Germany—extended the aggregate lead with a brilliant header. Just eight minutes into the second half, the 24-year-old struck again, finishing a well-executed team move from a Giovanni di Lorenzo cross. With 23 goals in 28 appearances across all competitions this season, Osimhen has now become the first Napoli player to score in both legs of a Champions League knockout tie.

Even with the tie firmly under control, Napoli never stopped attacking. Their dominance paid off with about half an hour left on the clock when Djibril Sow fouled Zielinski in the area. Stepping up himself, Zielinski calmly slotted the penalty straight down the center to put the finishing touches on a night the home fans won't soon forget.

Napoli now joins Inter and AC Milan as the third Italian side to progress to the quarter-finals.
