WGAI Update – September 12, 2018: It was a challenging day for the pros at the DLF Golf and Country Club. During the first round of the Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour's 14th leg on Wednesday, the Gary Player course proved so tough that no player was able to finish under par.th leg of Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour on Wednesday.
The competition is taking place on the Gary Player layout, which will also host the Hero Women’s Indian Open later this year. This provides the athletes with a perfect opportunity to get a feel for the course over the next three days in preparation for the European Tour event.
Millie Saroha and Gaurika Bishnoi are sharing the lead after both carded a 77, with SarohaNotably sinking her second shot on the Par-4 seventh for an eagle. They are just one stroke ahead of Afshan Fatima, who claimed victory in Greater Noida last week. Fatima might have been leading the pack if not for a triple bogey eight on the par-5 15th. Tvesa Malik sat in fourth with a 79, while Amandeep Drall, amateur Rhea Saravanan, and Sifat Sagoo—playing on her own home turf—all tied for fifth place with scores of 80.th. Tvesa Malik (79) was fourth, while Amandeep Drall and amateur Sifat Sagoo, who is playing at her home course, and another amateur Rhea Saravanan shot 80 each to be Tied-5th.
Sonam Chugh landed in eighth place, while Khushi Khanijau and Neha Tripathi shared ninth. Meanwhile, Astha Madan shot an 85 in her first-ever professional appearance.th. Astha Madan in her maiden pro event carded 85.
Millie recorded the only eagle of the day and added a birdie on the Par-5 eighth, though her total of 77 also included six bogeys and one double. Gaurika's matching 77 was composed of one birdie, two bogeys, and two doubles.
Afshan Fatima's round started poorly with three bogeys, but she managed to recover with birdies on the ninth and 18th. Amateur Sifat Sagoo had a rocky start with three doubles, though she fought back with three birdies before dropping another double and two more bogeys.th, while amateur Sifat started the day with three doubles, but made up somewhat with three birdies though she dropped two more bogeys and another double.
The second round pairings are set: the opening group features Anisha Padukone, Astha Madan, and Siddhi Kapoor, followed by Gursimar Badwal, Mehar Atwal, and Khushi Khanijau. The third group consists of Neha Tripathi, Sonam Chugh, and amateur Rhea Saravanan. Sifat Sagoo, Amandeep Drall, and Tvesa Malik will play in the second-to-last group, leaving the final threesome to be contested by Afshan Fatima, Gaurika Bishnoi, and Millie Saroha.
