At the Asian Games, Manjit Singh grabbed the gold and Jinson Johnson the silver in the 800m event. In badminton, PV Sindhu achieved a historic milestone by winning a silver medal.

The 18th edition of the Asian Games is taking place in the Indonesian cities of Jakarta and Palembang. During the tenth day of the event, India's PV Sindhu (seeded 3rd) competed against the world number one, Tai Tzu Ying from Chinese Taipei, in the women's singles badminton final.

The match lasted roughly 34 minutes, ending in a straight-set defeat for Sindhu, 13-21 and 16-21. Sindhu was unable to reach the same level of play that allowed her to beat Tai Tzu Ying during the Rio Olympics.

Despite the loss in the final, Sindhu walked away with a silver medal, making her the first Indian badminton player to ever achieve this feat at the Asian Games. Before this, India's best result was Syed Modi's bronze in the 1982 men's singles.

For the first time, India has managed to win two medals in the badminton singles category at a single Asian Games, as Saina Nehwal also secured a bronze. However, 23-year-old Sindhu has faced some frustration this year, missing out on gold in five different major competitions.

Sindhu earned silver medals in five events this year: the Commonwealth Games, the World Championships, the India Open, the Thailand Open, and the current Asian Games.

The Indian women's compound archery team, featuring Muskan Kirar, Madhumita Kumari, and Jyothi Surekha, earned a silver medal. They narrowly lost to South Korea in the final with a score of 228-231.

Similarly, the men's compound archery team took home silver. After a tight battle against South Korea featuring players like Verma, Rajat Chauhan, and Aman Shine, the match ended in a 229-229 tie after four sets. The gold was ultimately decided by a shoot-out, which Korea won, leaving India with the silver.

In table tennis, the Indian men's team—composed of Sathiyan, Sharath Kamal, and Anthony Amalraj—was defeated 0-3 by South Korea in the semi-finals.

Although they lost the semi-final, the men's team secured a bronze medal. This is a significant moment as it is India's first-ever medal in table tennis at the Asian Games.

In the women's 200m sprint, Dutee Chand and Hima Das both qualified for the semi-finals. Dutee clocked 23.37 seconds in her heat, while Hima finished in 23.47 seconds.

Dutee Chand continued her momentum in the first semi-final, crossing the line in 23.00 seconds to reach the finals. Unfortunately, Hima Das was disqualified in the second semi-final for a false start, jumping the gun before the official signal.

Manjit Singh dominated the men's 800m race, winning gold with a time of 1:46.15. Fellow countryman Jinson Johnson followed closely with a time of 1:46.35 to take silver, while Qatar's Abu Bakkar finished third at 1:46.38 to claim bronze.

This gold in the 800m is a historic return for India, coming 36 years after Charles Boro-miao's gold medal win in 1982.
