India started their Asian Games journey strongly as Deepak Kumar clinched Silver in the Men's 10m Air Rifle. Despite the intense pressure throughout the event, Kumar reached a final score of 247.7, finishing just behind the dominant Yang Haoran of China, who defended his title with a record-breaking 249.1.
Yang Haoran was the man to beat for everyone, including India's duo of Deepak and Ravi Kumar. Ravi actually looked like a frontrunner early on, consistently placing in the top three. Unfortunately, a single shot of 9.2 derailed his momentum, leading to his elimination and a final fourth-place finish with 205.2.
Deepak's path was more dramatic. After an inconsistent start where a couple of 9s pushed him down to sixth place, he had to dig deep to stay in the race. He managed to turn things around with a pair of impressive shots—a 10.8 followed by a 10.9—which catapulted him back into the silver medal position.
Showing great composure under fire, Deepak staged a brilliant comeback to secure India's third medal of the tournament and the second for the shooting discipline. This is his first-ever Asian Games medal, following a successful run earlier this year where he took bronze at the World Cup in the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team category.
