On Tuesday, India's seasoned shuttler Saina Nehwal began her BWF World Championships journey on a high note, defeating Hong Kong's Cheung Ngan Yi in straight games. The former world number one showcased the skill and dominance of her prime, wrapping up the match in just 38 minutes with a final score of 21-19, 21-9. Thanks to an injury-forced withdrawal by her next opponent, Nozomi Okuhara, Saina has advanced directly to the pre-quarterfinals.
Indian veteran shuttler Saina Nehwal kicked off her BWF World Championships campaign with a straight-game win over Hong Kong’s Cheung Ngan Yi on Tuesday. Saina Nehwal produced an excellent performance and showed enough glimpses of her glorious past to claim a dominant 21-19, 21-9 win over Cheung Ngan Yi. A former world no.1, Saina took just 38 minutes to outplay Ngan Yi in her opening round. India’s senior and most experienced shuttler thus moved into the pre-quarterfinals as her second-round opponent, Nozomi Okuhara pulled out of the tournament due to an injury.

The 32-year-old veteran showed great resilience, recovering from an early 4-7 trail. By staying composed and playing a smart tactical game, she managed to take control and lead 12-11 following the interval, fighting relentlessly for every point on the court.

Drawing on her experience as a previous World Championship silver and bronze medalist, Saina maintained a slim margin over Ngan Yi. She kept her cool during a tense 19-19 deadlock, securing the two vital points needed to take the first set.

Entering the second game, Saina ramped up the intensity with a much more offensive approach. Ngan Yi found it difficult to respond to this pressure, allowing Saina to build an 11-6 lead by the interval. From there, the Indian shuttler maintained her momentum and sealed the match with ease.

In the women's doubles category, India's Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand started their BWF Worlds campaign strongly. The pair dominated the match against Malaysia's Yeen Yuan Low and Valeree Siow, claiming a comfortable 21-11, 21-13 win.

The young duo of Ashwini Bhat K and Shikha Gautam also enjoyed a successful start. They moved forward to the second round after a swift 30-minute encounter, defeating Italy's Martina Corsini and Judith Mair 21-8, 21-14.

Unfortunately, it was a tougher day for the men's doubles team of Krishna Prasad Garaga and Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjala, who were eliminated after falling 14-21, 18-21 to France's Fabien Delure and William Villeger. Similarly, the mixed doubles pair of Venkat Gaurav Prasad and Juhi Dewangan exited the tournament following a 10-21, 21-23 loss to England's Gregory Mairs and Jenny Moore.

Tanisha Crasto and Ishaan Bhatnagar also saw their run end in the mixed doubles, losing 14-21, 17-21 to the Thai pair of Supak Jomkoh and Supissara Paewsampran.
