Both Novak Djokovic and last year's winner, Andrey Rublev, have successfully moved into the quarterfinals of the Dubai Open.

The top-seeded Novak Djokovic continued his dominant start to the 2023 season, comfortably defeating Tallon Griekspoor to advance to the Dubai Championships quarterfinals. Despite a tough challenge from Griekspoor, the Serbian star maintained control, winning in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 on Wednesday. This victory extends Djokovic's winning streak to 19 matches, providing a smoother transition than his previous match against Tomas Machac, which went to a final-set tiebreak. He will now face Hubert Hurkacz of Poland in the quarter-finals.
Top-seed Novak Djokovic continued his unbeaten run in the 2023 season, outplaying Tallon Griekspoor to ease into the quarterfinals at the Dubai Championships. The Serbian star saw out a ferocious challenge from the Dutchman Griekspoor and produced a dominating show to clinch a straight set 6-2, 6-3 win on Wednesday. World no.1 Djokovic extended his winning streak to 19 matches in tidy fashion a day after being pushed to a third-set tiebreaker by 130th-ranked Tomas Machac. Djokovic will take on Hubert Hurkacz of Poland in the quarter-final.

After a month-long break from competition, Djokovic showed some signs of rust and frustration in a three-set opening match against Czech qualifier Machac. However, he regained his composure in the round of 16, displaying the elite skill that defines the world number one. He was hitting the ball cleanly from the start, breaking Griekspoor four times to secure a victory in just 82 minutes. It was a seamless performance against one of the ATP Tour's most consistent players at the moment.

Aiming for his sixth trophy in Dubai, Djokovic admitted that his previous match was a hard-fought battle, but he felt significantly more precise and focused in his win over Griekspoor.

Djokovic praised the 26-year-old Griekspoor as one of the most improved athletes on the tour. During his post-match interview, a smiling Djokovic remarked that while a new generation of players is rising, he isn't intimidated by the challenge.

Meanwhile, defending champion Andrey Rublev staged a dramatic comeback to defeat Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, winning 1-6, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (3) to reach the quarterfinals. The 25-year-old Russian showed incredible resilience, saving five match points in the second-set tiebreaker and reeling off seven straight points after a poor first set. This marks the third time this season that Rublev has fought back from the brink of defeat to win a match.

Rublev's next opponent will be Botic van de Zandschulp as he fights for a semi-final berth. The match against Davidovich Fokina was a rollercoaster; the Spaniard led 5-0 in the final tiebreak and saved two match points before Rublev finally sealed the victory on his third attempt.

Speaking at a press conference, Rublev admitted he had already accepted defeat in his mind. He expressed his disbelief and joy, noting that winning a match you thought was already lost is a truly special feeling.

Earlier that day, Italy's Lorenzo Sonego pulled off an upset by beating fourth-seed Felix Auger-Aliassime 7-6 (4), 6-4; he will now face Alexander Zverev. The German player earned his spot in the final eight by defeating qualifier Christopher O’Connell 7-5, 6-4.
