Araijeet (11′, 16′, 41′) found the net thrice, while Amandeep (30′) chipped in with a goal for India. Dohyun Lim (38′) and Minkwon Kim (45′) were the goal scorers for Korea. Indian men will be striving for a fourth podium result at this year’s tournament. India will take on Spain in their second encounter on December 7, Thursday.
The game began as a tactical stalemate, with both teams feeling each other out and struggling to create clear-cut chances. India eventually dominated possession and created the first serious opportunity when Sudeep Chirmako attempted a reverse flick from the right, but it flew over the bar. Continued pressure in the Korean circle eventually paid off with a penalty corner, and in the 11th minute, Araijeet managed to score despite a messy play, giving India the lead.
Taking full advantage of their momentum, India made it 2-0 early in the second quarter with an impressive field goal. The play developed from Bobby’s excellent run along the baseline; he delivered a pass to Araijeet, who calmly slotted the ball home from the center. India continued to press the attack, but the Korean defense remained resilient. Korea had a chance to get back into the game with a penalty corner in the 29th minute, but they couldn't convert. India responded quickly, with Amandeep scoring from open play in the final minute of the half to make it 3-0.
The second half saw Korea shift to a more aggressive, unconventional style of play. Their persistence paid off in the 38th minute when Dohyun converted a penalty corner to narrow the gap. However, the lead was quickly restored to three goals in the 41st minute when Araijeet completed his hat-trick with a sharp reverse flick.
India's situation became precarious late in the third quarter when they were reduced to nine players. Korea capitalized on the man advantage, winning a penalty corner that Kim converted, leaving the score at 4-2. The final quarter was an intense back-and-forth battle. Korea pushed hard and earned several penalty corners but failed to score. India also had multiple opportunities to extend their lead, including a penalty corner, but they couldn't find the net a fifth time, closing the game out with a 4-2 win.
