The Governor of New York sent a thank-you note to the NBA, the Knicks, and the Nets for donating a million surgical masks

A recently released COVID-19 map from the US showed the virus spreading rapidly, with confirmed cases topping 300,000 and deaths surpassing 8,000. The US joined China, Italy, and Spain as major epicenters of the pandemic. With much of the world effectively shut down, the daily rise in deaths became erratic and difficult to forecast.
The United States of America had released a map of COVID-19 impacted places, and the count of the diseased individuals has reached 3,00,000 and beyond, and the death rate has crossed 8000 in the USA. Next to China, Italy, Spain, and America were to fell prey for the coronavirus infection, as the countries are facing almost a global shutdown in the world, the toll of death due to the viral flu seems to reach unpredictability with the day by day count.

COVID-19 disrupted every facet of modern life, from business operations to the entertainment industry, leading to a massive wave of cancelled sporting events worldwide. Tennis saw a historic milestone when Wimbledon was called off, mirroring a closure not seen since the aftermath of World War II. In a gesture of solidarity, sports organizations opened their venues to store essential medical gear and supplies for healthcare providers.

Athletes from across the sporting world—including those in football, cricket, shooting, golf, and badminton—contributed financially to government efforts to curb the pandemic. The situation in New York City was particularly dire, with daily admissions for the virus exceeding 10,000; on Friday, April 3, 2020, the city recorded over 600 deaths in a single day. In response, the New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets of the NBA teamed up with Chinese Consul General Huang Ping to provide one million surgical masks to the frontline workers risking their lives.

Governor Andrew Cuomo took to Twitter to share the news of the donation, calling it a vital 'gift' for the city's urgent needs. He emphasized that these masks would go directly to the essential workers fighting the pandemic. Further support came from Joseph Tsai, the co-founder of Alibaba and owner of the Brooklyn Nets, who along with his wife Clara, donated 1,000 ventilators scheduled to arrive over the weekend. Governor Cuomo highlighted that ventilators were the city's most critical requirement, noting that Tsai had also personally provided masks and 500,000 testing kits. Additionally, ESPN reported that players from both the NBA and WNBA contributed a combined $50 million to a COVID-19 relief fund.
