To ensure athletes can focus entirely on their final preparations, the Wrestling Federation of India announced that no additional trials will be held for the Paris Olympics. The decision follows a request from five wrestlers who feared that more competitions would hinder their readiness. Unfortunately, this means those without a quota, such as Ravi Dahiya, are out. Dahiya, who was fighting back from a knee injury after losing to Aman in the selection rounds, will not be heading to Paris.
The Wrestling Federation of India has announced that there would be no trials to pick wrestlers for the Paris Olympics trials, as those who have earned an Olympic quota will compete in the multi-sport mega event. The board made the decision after five wrestlers wrote to them, urging that the trials not be held because it would interfere with their preparations for the Paris Olympics. However, the decision dashed the expectations of wrestlers such as Ravi Dahiya, who did not receive an Olympic quota. Dahiya is back from a knee injury after losing to Aman in the selection trials for the two Olympic qualification competitions in Paris.
India is sending a six-member wrestling contingent to the Paris Olympics. The women's team consists of Vinesh Phogat (50kg), Antim Panghal (53kg), Anshu Malik (57kg), Nisha Dahiya (68kg), and Reetika Hooda (76kg). Joining them is Aman Sehrawat, who will be the only Indian man competing in the 57kg category.
At the Asian Wrestling Olympic Qualifiers, Vinesh Phogat made a strong statement by defeating South Korea's Miran Cheon 10-0 via technical superiority in the 50kg class. Anshu Malik also excelled at the tournament to claim her 57kg spot; the 22-year-old first beat Kyrgyzstan's Kalmira Bilimbek Kyzy 12-1 in the quarters, then cruised to an 11-0 win over Uzbekistan's Laylokhon Sobirova in the semifinals.
Reetika Hooda, who holds the U23 world title, fought her way to the semi-finals of the 76kg category at the Asian Qualifiers by taking down opponents from South Korea, Mongolia, and China. She sealed her Olympic ticket with a convincing 7-0 win over Chinese Taipei's Hui Tsz Chang in the decisive quota match.
In other qualifying events, Nisha Dahiya secured her place in the women's 68kg freestyle division during the World Qualifiers in Istanbul. Meanwhile, Antim Panghal earned her spot in the 53kg category following an impressive bronze-medal finish at last year's World Championships.
Representing the men's side, U23 world champion Aman Sehrawat clinched India's final wrestling slot in the 57kg freestyle category. During the World Olympic Qualifiers in Istanbul, Turkey, he secured his qualification with a dominant 12-2 victory over North Korea's Chongsong Han in the semifinals.
