The European Tour announced on Monday that a new tournament has been slotted into the season's closing week in Dubai. Sponsored by DP World, the Golf in Dubai Championship will be held at Jumeirah Golf Estates, just one week prior to the DP World Tour Championship.
A new event has been added to the season’s final week in Dubai and was announced on Monday by the European Tour. The Golf in Dubai Championship sponsored by DP World is to be held a week before the penultimate DP World Tour Championship in December, with both the championships being hosted at Jumeriah Golf Estates.
The debut event will take place on the Fire Course, while the Earth Course is reserved for the Race to Dubai decider between December 10 and 13. While the schedule conflicts with the South African Open, the Dubai event is set to conclude just before the South African final round on December 5.
The 2020 season was thrown into chaos by the pandemic, but with the introduction of the Golf in Dubai Championship, the schedule is now officially full. This tournament is the 15th new event added to the 38-stop journey to crown the European No. 1.
European Tour CEO Keith Pelley mentioned in a recent interview that completely rebuilding the season from March onwards was a daunting and unprecedented task. He praised his team for their tireless work behind the scenes, highlighting their flexibility and creative problem-solving.
Pelley described the DP World-presented Golf in Dubai Championship as the final piece of the puzzle, upholding their commitment to hosting events across diverse global regions. He believes this gives players a wonderful opportunity to spend time in one of the world's most stunning locations before heading into the season finale at the DP World Tour Championship.
He expressed his gratitude to the leadership in Dubai, DP World, Falcon, and Jumeirah Golf Estates for making this event possible despite the pandemic. Pelley concluded that this new tournament reflects the growing partnership with DP World, which has already seen support for the DP World Tour Championship, EDGA Dubai, and various development programs via the Emirates Golf Federation.
Keith Pelley concluded by saying that the inception of this new event shows the evolution of their partnership with DP World that started with their support to the DP World Tour Championship, the Emirates Golf Federation development programs, the EDGA Dubai finale and as an Official Partner of the Europe
