Tiger Woods is among the ten finalists nominated for the World Golf Hall of Fame

The World Golf Hall of Fame, based in St. Augustine, Florida, has identified ten outstanding golfers to be inducted in 2021, with the official ceremony details still pending approval from the board. To ensure a fair process, a committee of 26 experts from various fields analyzed the career trajectories of the nominees, narrowing down a list submitted by 20 selection members to find those worthy of joining the legendary figures enshrined in St. Augustine.

The nomination effort was spearheaded by World Golf Foundation Chairman Greg McLaughlin, supported by Hall of Fame alumni such as Karrie Webb, Meg Mallon, Hale Irwin, and Juli Inkster. To ensure a comprehensive evaluation of each golfer's impact on the game, the panel also included experts like Allison Keller (PGA Tour CAO), LPGA professional Heather Daly-Donofrio, Bob Harig of ESPN, Jimmy Roberts from NBC, Lewine Mair of Global Golf Post UK, and Kelly Tilghman, all of whom scrutinized the achievements of the 2021 candidates.

The finalists include four men and four women, as well as two individuals recognized for their overall contributions to the sport. Notably, the eligibility rules have been updated: the minimum age for nomination has been lowered from 50 to 45, or alternatively, a player must have been retired for at least three years. Additionally, the 'Lifetime Achiever' designation has been rebranded as the 'Contributor Category,' with adjusted retirement requirements. Greg McLaughlin expressed his gratitude to the nomination committee, praising their diligence in selecting the most deserving candidates.

Among the nominees is Tiger Woods, who reaches the new age threshold of 45 in December 2020; his inclusion is backed by a staggering 82 PGA Tour victories, placing him in the same league as Virginia's Sam Snead. Other male nominees include Ireland's Padraig Harrington, alongside Johnny Farrell and Tom Weiskopf. The women's shortlist features Beverly Hanson, Sandra Palmer, Dottie Pepper, and Susie Maxwell Berning, while Tim Finchem and Marion Hollins have been nominated in the Contributors category.
