India has unveiled its 15-man squad for the upcoming ICC World Cup in the UK, kicking off on May 30th. The team will be captained by Virat Kohli, as announced during a press event in Mumbai this past Monday. While the roster was largely predictable, the decision to include Dinesh Karthik and leave out Rishabh Pant was the main talking point. This reveal follows a week of intense anticipation and debate, specifically regarding the strategy for the number four position. The selection was finalized and announced by MSK Prasad, the BCCI Chairman of Selectors.

The selection panel, led by MSK Prasad, opted for stability and continuity, making the choice of the backup wicketkeeper the only real point of contention.

Despite a lackluster performance with the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL, 33-year-old Dinesh Karthik was chosen over the younger 21-year-old Rishabh Pant.

Since the backup keeper only plays if MS Dhoni is unavailable, Prasad explained that Karthik's veteran experience in high-pressure games made him the safer bet. Under Kohli's leadership, the balanced squad consists of five specialist batters, two keepers, three pacers, three all-rounders, and two spin specialists.

Vijay Shankar from Tamil Nadu earned a spot thanks to his versatility as a 'three-dimensional' player. The full roster is as follows:
The squad:

The team includes: Virat Kohli (C), Rohit Sharma (VC), Dhawan, KL Rahul, Vijay Shankar, MS Dhoni (WK), Jadhav, Dinesh Karthik, Chahal, Kuldeep, Bhuvneshwar, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Jadeja, and Shami.
