Between 1993 and 1996, Mohammad Azharuddin experienced a career resurgence under Wadekar's leadership, recovering from a difficult period and several series losses in Australia, England, and New Zealand. Azhar paid tribute to him on Twitter, describing Wadekar as a father figure and a true icon of the game.
Anil Kumble, who had been sidelined after the 1990 tour of England, made his return to the side during the 1992-93 tour of South Africa under Wadekar's management.
