Liam Livingstone is working toward a return to the England ODI squad

Southampton: After being called up for the T20I team, all-rounder Liam Livingstone is using the opportunity to prove he deserves a place back in the ODI setup. Despite being cast as a finisher in recent T20 World Cups, his performance against Australia at the Utilita Bowl last Wednesday highlighted his full range of skills. He was the top scorer with 37 runs from the number four position and provided a crucial bowling spell, taking 3 for 22 with his leg-spin.

Following the T20Is, England and Australia will move into a five-game ODI series. Despite his absence from the roster, Livingstone is focused on making a comeback to the format. \"I want to play as much international cricket as I can,\" he noted. \"Missing the ODIs is unfortunate, but I'm not giving up. Between various injuries and health setbacks, the last couple of years have been a struggle, and I haven't always felt 100% physically fit,\" he explained.

\"I'm still figuring a few things out—that's part of the challenge. That's why I'm so pleased to be batting at number four in the T20Is. I believe the last month has shown that the more time I get at the crease in a series, the more I can actually influence the outcome of the matches.\"

\"I feel I've shown that same potential in ODI cricket too, especially when batting further down the order, if you look past the World Cup. But it is what it is. At 31, I'm not going to mope about being left out. There's plenty of cricket to play around the world, so if the ODI door is closed for now, I'll find other opportunities to compete,\" he added.

Livingstone first made headlines in 2021 during a match against Pakistan, where he smashed a breathtaking century off just 42 balls, including a massive 117-meter six off Haris Rauf. His explosive approach made him a star in both international cricket and major leagues like the IPL and The Hundred. However, a string of injuries—including an ankle issue before the 2022 T20 World Cup and a knee injury during his Test debut in Pakistan—led to a dip in form and uncertainty regarding his role in England's long-term plans.

Livingstone now views the current T20I series as a vital chance to prove his fitness and utility. \"Absolutely, I'm fit and ready to field, bowl, and bat at my absolute best—something I haven't truly been able to do for about two and a half years. I'm craving that responsibility. I want to be a match-winner for England, and batting higher up the order gives me the best chance to make that happen,\" he stated.
